Deep cleaning doesn’t have to be an overwhelming, impossible task. Use these tips to tackle each room quickly and effectively.
To avoid getting overwhelmed when deep cleaning your home, breaking the process down into smaller, more manageable tasks is recommended.
As you go through each room in your home, start with these deep cleaning tips to streamline the process.
1. Tidy up before deep cleaning
Find a new spot for any visible clutter that doesn’t belong in the room. Put things away behind closed doors for another day to help simplify your deep cleaning checklist. Clearing clutter makes deep cleaning easier, and seeing those tidy surfaces can energize you to keep going.
2. Start high and work your way down
Start with the large, hard-to-reach surfaces in this order: ceiling, ceiling molding, ceiling light fixtures, walls, remaining trim, and baseboards. The best tools to clean those areas are clean microfiber mops, feather dusters with handles, and disinfectant wipes.
Surfaces closest to the floor tend to collect dirt and dust. To remove them, you can use warm water mixed with a drop of dish soap. In bathrooms, add a splash of white vinegar to the mix to prevent mold and mildew. Rinse frequently and rinse well.
3. Deep Clean Windows
To clean windows first, vacuum the sills and tracks. Then spray the window with glass cleaner from top to bottom. Let the cleaner do its work for 1 minute and then remove it with a squeegee. If you wipe in one direction on the inside and another on the outside of the windows, it will be easier to see and fix streaks.
4. Renew Window Treatments
You can save yourself the time of taking down blinds or curtains by vacuuming them with the brush attachment. Instead of washing and ironing your curtains, you can pop them in the dryer for a few minutes while you clean the rod and rings. Then, hang them back up.
5. Dust Surfaces
Wipe down any remaining hard surfaces with a furniture cleaner, polish, and a soft cloth. Place a clean cotton sock in your dominant hand to dust surfaces for an extra-quick clean. Finally, run a lint roller over lampshades.
6. Deep Clean Floors
To do this right, you’ll need to move furniture, even large furniture. To make moving heavy furniture easier, place furniture sliders under the legs of large furniture. Then, use your vacuum’s crevice tool to remove dirt in corners and along baseboards. If you have a hard floor, clean it with a microfiber mop and the right cleaner for the surface.
